In 1999, the founder, Dr Dirk Koekemoer, was a general practitioner at a busy medical practice in Pretoria.
Passionate about his calling, he was also overworked and deeply frustrated by his constant professional predicament: too many patients, and never enough time.
A misdiagnosis of a kidney tumour in a young patient would change Dirk’s life forever.
It inspired him to take a bold step into the unknown – and dedicate his life’s work to advancing access to high-quality, affordable, universal healthcare for all.
Dirk would achieve this by inventing and developing state-of-the-art, location-independent medical technology that would support and empower healthcare practitioners worldwide to treat more patients – as rapidly and affordably as possible, without ever compromising on quality or patient care.
In 1999, Dirk founded GeoAxon Holdings.
In 2008 the medical technology company introduced what would become its flagship product – the iconic Kuduwave High-Frequency Boothless Screening & Diagnostic Audiometer.
The clinically validated, telemedicine-enabled Kuduwave range of screening and diagnostic audiometers would go on to provide portable hearing healthcare to more than a million patients.
Across the globe, these revolutionary audiometers have been transforming the way audiologists and healthcare providers conduct their work.
In early 2021, a modified Kuduwave audiometer was launched into space to be utilised aboard the CRS-15 Cygnus spacecraft, where it forms part of Northrop Grumman’s NASA-contracted 15th Commercial Resupply Mission – aiding astronauts in performing hearing tests aboard the International Space Station.
